• Unholy Confessions

"I'll try," she said as he walked away.
    "Try not to lose you."
    Two vibrant hearts could change.
Nothing tears the being more than deception,
    unmasked fear.
"I'll be here waiting" tested and secure.

    Nothing hurts my world,
just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood,
you'll be the one to fall.

"I wish I could be the one,
the one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand,
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me.
When time soaked with blood turns its back,
I know it's hard to fall.
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me."

Nothing will last in this life,
    our time is spent constructing,
now you're perfecting a world... meant to sin.
    Constrict your hands around me,
    squeeze till I cannot breathe,
this air tastes dead inside me,
    contribute to our plague.
    Break all your promises,
    tear down this steadfast wall,
    restraints are useless here,
    tasting salvation's near.

    Nothing hurts my world,
just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood,
you'll be the one to fall.

"I wish I could be the one,
the one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand,
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me.
When time soaked with blood turns its back,
I know it's hard to fall.
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me."

  • Waking The Fallen

*All songs written and composed by Avenged Sevenfold, except "Waking the Fallen" by Avenged Sevenfold and Scott Gilman.

Waking the Fallen is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold, released on August 26, 2003 by Hopeless Records. It is the last release by the band to feature their metalcore sound, although more clean vocals are featured on the album than their debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. It is also the first album to feature Johnny Christ on bass, thus completing the band's primary lineup (until The Rev's death in 2009).

The album was released as 2x12", LP, Repress, 33 ⅓ RPM, Grey Marble on 2008 in US.The album was certified gold on July 15, 2009.

    Musical Style

The record continues the metalcore sound the band had used on their previous album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, but features noticeably more clean vocals. Being the first release by the band to feature lead guitarist Synyster Gates, the record features more guitar solos. The record is notable among fans due to M. Shadows' slightly higher pitch in his voice and high notes he sings on songs like "I Won't See You Tonight" (both parts).

    Reception

Waking the Fallen was highly acclaimed. It received a positive profile in Billboard, with the magazine comparing Avenged Sevenfold to bands like NOFX, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. In other profiles, the album also received comparisons to the Misfits and further comparisons to Iron Maiden. "Chapter Four" was featured in video games such as NASCAR Thunder 2004, Madden NFL 04, and NHL 04, which helped the band get recognized and sign a contract with Warner Bros. Records.

    Videography

A live performance video was shot at Warped Tour 2003 for the first single from Waking the Fallen, "Second Heartbeat". A video was made for the second single "Unholy Confessions" on March 6, 2004, using live footage set to the studio track. It featured the fans before and during an Avenged Sevenfold concert. According to vocalist M. Shadows, it was requested by their new label, Warner Bros. Records, in order to publicize the band before their 2005 album City of Evil.

This video was the second attempt at a video for the track. The previous attempt was a concept video created the previous fall (2003). The band was not happy with the final product, however, and opted to re-shoot the video, this time as a live performance. The new video went into rotation on MTV2's Headbangers Ball.

  •                    Sounding The Seventh Trumpet

Sounding The Seventh Trumpet is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold, released on March 24, 2001 by Good Life Recordings, and subsequently re-released by Hopeless Records on March 19, 2002, featuring slightly different cover art. As of 2008, Sounding The Seventh Trumpet has sold 200,000 copies worldwide. The title 'Sounding the Seventh Trumpet' derives its name from the book of Revelation, specifically referencing chapter 11 and the sounding of the last (seventh) trumpet, signifying the end of the world. Valary DiBenedetto (M. Shadows' wife) performs vocals on the track "The Art of Subconscious Illusion." The album was released as 2x12 vinylLP, 33 ⅓ RPM, Purple on 2008 in US.

    Reception

Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was generally well received by critics. Allmusic rated the album three stars out of five and wrote: " Sounding The Seventh Trumpet is a magnificent album that is suitable for any fan of metal music, as Avenged Sevenfold has a firm grasp on all that is extreme." The review also praised the tracks "Darkness Surrounding" and "We Come out at Night" as being "...excellent metalcore masterpieces, as the vocal harmonies add to these cuts to evolve the songs into fully atmospheric sonic blasts."

    Videography

Avenged Sevenfold later released the Warmness On The Soul EP, which featured a video for the single "Warmness on the Soul". The video depicted the band wandering through city streets as a girl searched for them. And there is also the heavy metal version of "To End the Rapture" which was released on the reissue of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet  after it was bought by Hopeless Records.

                                       Warmness On The Soul EP

               * This version was featured on the re-released of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, remplacing the original.

Warmness on the Soul is the first EP/single by Avenged Sevenfold. It was released on August 8, 2001 by Good Life Recordings. The release features the video for the title track, "Warmness on the Soul" as an Enhanced CD bonus. The EP was the first release to feature guitarist, Synyster Gates. All of the songs are included on Avenged Sevenfold's debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, all except for the heavy metal version of "To End the Rapture".

    Music Video

The music video consists of scenes of the band performing, playing near the beach with Zacky Vengeance on lead guitar. The video centers around a woman who is looking for the band members, who are wandering through city streets as she searches for them. Then the band walks onto a stage and performs the rest of the song.

    Names

The band members' names seem to be different than their current names in the credits. For example M. Shadows is credited "Shadows" and Synyster Gates is credited "Synyster Gaytes" . This is probably because their stage names were not completely final at the time and the fact that on the original release of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet no one had their stage names except The Rev and Zacky Vengeance. Johnny Christ was not a member at the time.
